As Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for achieving the company's commercial objectives in the Chinese and Southeast Asian markets. You will lead the sales and procurement strategy, develop and manage strong grower relationships, and translate market demand into effective sourcing and supply chain decisions. You combine strategic thinking with hands-on execution to drive growth, profitability, and operational continuity.

About Our Client

The client is an import company based in Shanghai, with sales, sourcing managers and procurement offices globally. Our roots lie with a South African fruit grower, and from there, we've specialised in importing grapes and citrus, supplemented with cherries, apples, pears, stone fruits, pomegranates, avocados, mangoes and limes. We handle the marketing and distribution to major supermarkets, food service providers, food processors and traders across China and South East Asia.

Job Description

* Executing the commercial strategy to achieve the sales, procurement and profitability objectives.
* Maintain the existing strong customer and grower network and develop new relationships, with a focus on long term partnerships.
* Participate in day to day sales and procurement operations
* Maintain and develop relationships with the local logistical service providers, negotiate terms and conditions to maximize efficiency.
* Negotiate with customers and growers the commercial supply terms and payment policies of the company.
* Manage and develop the commercial team
* Keep a good understanding of all fruit varieties and volumes that are arriving to China and SEA markets and the impact on market prices. Help to find opportunities and forecast the supply and pricing trends.
* Ensure diligent communication with growers on sales, stocks, quality and market trends.
* Travelling to customers and growers will be an important part of the role.

The Successful Applicant

* Higher professional education level or operating on this level (f.e. BSc.).
* Proven experience in a senior commercial role within the fresh fruit sector.
* Strong network in the fruit industry with exposure to both China and Asia.
* Comfortable with frequent international travel
* Fluent in English; Mandarin is a strong advantage.
* Experience with MS Office (OFE uses MS Dynamics 365 BC and Power BI).
* Commercial mindset & results-driven: you spot opportunities and turn them into profitable deals.
* Leadership: A natural team manager who can guide, empower, and align international teams.
* Market insight & analytical thinking: you understand the fruit industry and can translate trends into actionable procurement strategies.
* Proactive & decisive: you act quickly, manage risks, and take ownership in dynamic environments.
* Cultural awareness: experienced in doing business in China and Southeast Asia, with a strong cultural sensitivity.
* Strong communication skills: able to operate effectively across multiple levels and stakeholders.
* Hands-on & energetic: proactive, takes initiative, solves problems, and delivers results.
* Sense of responsibility: you take full ownership of your role and contribute to the longterm success of the business.
