The Medical Director China will be responsible for incorporating and executing the local medical plan developed from the Global Medical and Marketing Strategical Plan incorporating local market and medical insights. This person will be accountable for Medical Governance and the medical ethical standards within the Country Organisation and takes full responsibility for the medical management in China - drives and leads all medical activities.

Our client is an international orphan drug development and commercialisation company which operates with products approved in over 30 countries. Now the company is launching their China team to further distribute their innovative treatments to the rare diseases patients in China.

Job Description



The Medical Director China will develop and implement the medical strategy for China

  • Identification, approach and relationship building with KOLS and other relevant stakeholder in the market
  • Responsibility for medical-scientific projects
  • Pro-active investigation for medical needs and potentials
  • Medical Insight Generation - translate medical knowledge for the commercial team
  • Design, coordinate and implement business-relevant clinical studies with key centres/KOLs
  • Cooperation with CROs project-related
  • Point of expertise for marketing - Consulting with regards to the marketing campaigns and material
  • Marketing material release
  • Medical trainer for the commercial team
  • Active participation on congresses
  • Liaison with the international medical team

The Successful Applicant

  • Scientific (PhD) or Medical degree (preferably) in a recognised discipline
  • A minimum of 5+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience; track record in Medical Director role
  • Breadth of experience in different therapeutic areas; desirable with rare disease experience
  • Knowledge and experience in project management
  • Expertise in the Chinese Health Care Market is a must; experience with rare disease desirable
  • Experience in building up sustainable relationship with KOLs and further relevant stakeholder across Chinese mainland region
  • Expertise in setting up and designing clinical studies with KOLs and in collaborating with CROs
  • Ability to translate medical knowledge for the commercial teams and to set up trainings accordingly
  • Excellent presentation skills supporting the ability to liaise with business partners and to present ideas and strategies
  • Outstanding negotiation skills with a good sense for the combination of medicine, business and people; strong in decision-making
  • Drive communication and negotiations with an empathetic, involving, however confident way; intercultural competence supports professional cooperation and know-how transfer/exchange within an international structure

  • Fluent in Mandarin and English
