The Head of Magnetic Levitation Equipment R&D will lead the design, prototyping, verification, and continuous improvement of magnetic levitation motion platforms and related subsystems. This position requires strong technical depth, cross-functional leadership, and hands-on experience in mechatronics, controls, and high‑precision engineering.

Job Description

  • Oversee end-to-end R&D for magnetic levitation motion platforms, including architecture definition, modeling, magnetic circuit design, and control strategy development.
  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, controls, simulation, software) to deliver concept designs, prototypes, and production-ready systems.
  • Define performance targets, reliability requirements, and qualification plans for maglev wafer-handling or process‑tool modules.
  • Direct simulation, testing, and validation activities for electromagnetic, thermal, and vibration characteristics.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams to ensure design manufacturability, stability, and cost control.
  • Evaluate and integrate sensors, actuators, power electronics, position feedback devices, and embedded firmware required for closed-loop motion control.
  • Drive technical documentation, design reviews, risk assessments, and compliance with internal and external engineering standards.
  • Support technology roadmapping and contribute to long‑term product planning.



The Successful Applicant

  • Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, Applied Physics, or a related field; PhD preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in high‑precision mechatronics, maglev systems, motion control platforms, or semiconductor equipment.
  • Solid command of electromagnetic design, magnetic circuit analysis, force modeling, and system behavior.
  • Hands‑on experience with engineering simulation tools, including:
    • ANSYS Maxwell / COMSOL Multiphysics (electromagnetic simulation)
    • MATLAB / Simulink (modeling & control)
    • SolidWorks / Creo (mechanical CAD)
    • Adams / Simpack (multi‑body)
    • Altium Designer (PCB or electronics design, if applicable)
  • Experience developing closed-loop controllers using tools such as:
    • dSPACE, NI LabVIEW, NI CompactRIO, Simulink Real‑Time, or equivalent frameworks.
  • Familiarity with power electronics, precision sensors, high‑bandwidth servo control, and embedded software.
  • Ability to manage multidisciplinary engineering programs and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in teams, mentoring engineers, and delivering hardware products from concept to deployment.
