About Our Client

Our client is a well-established Chinese industrial group known for its petrochemical equipment manufacturing heritage. The company is building its second growth curve through going global and new investments in adjacent industries and technologies.

This Business Development Director role is a front-line, execution-focused position in China, turning opportunities into real projects and future businesses.

Job Description

As Business Development Director for the second growth curve in China, you will:

  • Focus on domestic new project landing: business development, partnerships and early operations setup.
  • Work on a mix of initiatives: some investments already moving forward, others under evaluation.
  • Build pilots, demonstration projects and initial commercial models that can be scaled and integrated into the wider platform.
  • You are expected to operate hands-on and independently from day one, while closely collaborating with internal teams。

Key Responsibilities:1. Domestic Market & Opportunity Development

  • Map target industries, customers and partners in China that align with the second growth curve.
  • Build and maintain a structured opportunity pipeline, from early leads to projects.
  • Track and analyze market trends and customer needs, providing timely feedback to management.

2. Business Development & Partnership Execution

  • Understand customer scenarios and pain points, and translate them into concrete cooperation frameworks (solutions, pilots, joint projects).
  • Drive the process from first contact to signed agreements, covering piloting, demonstration and early roll-out.
  • Help design commercial models and basic risk-sharing structures for new initiatives.

3. New Project Landing & Operations Handover

  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholders to ensure that new projects are delivered on time and with the required quality.
  • Work with operations and relevant teams to ensure smooth handover from pilot to ongoing operation.
  • For investments that are already "good to go", support initial commercialization and customer engagement.

4. Ecosystem & Relationship Building

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, technical partners, industrial parks, research entities and other ecosystem players in China.
  • Turn these relationships into a stable deal flow for both direct business and potential investment/incubation opportunities.

5. Support to Investment & Incubation

  • Provide front-line insights (market, customers, projects) as input to investment and due diligence decisions.
  • Support post-investment work by helping portfolio companies connect with the right customers and projects in China.

The Successful Applicant

Experience

  • Deep experience in the China market in one or more of the following areas:
    • Industrial solutions or process industries
    • Energy or infrastructure-related technologies
    • Data/automation/infrastructure-related solutions
    • Industrial software, process control, thermal management, or critical equipment/materials

Skills & Mindset

  • Demonstrated success in business development, solution sales or partnership-driven projects in complex B2B environments.
  • Able to translate technical or engineering solutions into clear business proposals and workable commercial structures.
  • Strong project management and negotiation skills, comfortable with multiple stakeholders and longer sales cycles.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Works well with senior management and cross-functional internal teams (R&D, product, supply chain, legal, finance).
  • Able to build structured customer engagement routines - regular pipeline reviews, account plans, and standardized reporting.

Language

  • Chinese speaker
  • English capabilities for international communication are a plus.
