We are seeking an experienced ‌Sales Manager‌ to lead our cotton and agricultural commodities sales efforts in China, targeting both private enterprises and state-owned companies (including overseas affiliates). Based in China and reporting to the Executive Manager for Cotton and Sugar Marketing, you will drive market penetration, manage key accounts, and mentor a team of two direct reports.

Job Description

‌Key Responsibilities:‌

  • Sales Growth:‌ Promote global-origin agricultural commodities (primarily cotton) into the Chinese market.
  • Key Account Management:‌ Strengthen relationships with major clients and the China State Reserve, ensuring our position as a preferred supplier.
  • Market Expansion:‌ Identify and onboard new clients to enhance the sales network.
  • Risk Mitigation:‌ Proactively manage counterparty risks to safeguard company interests.
  • Trade Operations:‌ Oversee stock-and-sale programs in free trade zones, collaborating with service providers.
  • Fundamental Analysis:‌ Analyze price trends, production, and demand dynamics to inform trading strategies.
  • Government Relations:‌ Engage with agencies to anticipate policy shifts in textiles and cotton production.
  • Team Leadership:‌ Coach direct reports and delegate client portfolios.
  • Supply Chain Coordination:‌ Resolve execution issues and ensure smooth contract fulfillment.
  • Industry Engagement:‌ Attend global cotton conferences and travel to client sites.

  • Coordinate cotton desk resources and drive financial performance.
  • Deliver on market penetration, sustainability initiatives, and risk management.

The Successful Applicant

‌Requirements:‌

  • Education:‌ Degree in Mathematics, Economics, Business, or related fields.
  • Experience:
    • Proven track record in cotton/agricultural commodities sales in China, with expertise in global trade flows, quality differentials, and time spreads.
    • Familiarity with trading instruments (futures, options), hedging strategies, and contract terms.
  • Skills:
    • Strong analytical/numerical aptitude.
    • Fluent English (written/spoken) and exceptional communication skills.
    • Relationship-building and influencing capabilities.
