We are seeking an experienced Human Capital Manager to oversee HR operations, payroll governance, employee lifecycle processes, and vendor management across China. The role partners closely with regional stakeholders in Hong Kong to support operational excellence, compliance, and continuous process improvement.

Our client is an established global investment management organization with operations across Asia and other international markets. The business maintains a collaborative and professional working environment and is continuing to strengthen its presence in Mainland China through the development of its Shenzhen and Zhuhai offices.

The successful candidate will join a lean and dynamic Human Capital function, supporting a diverse employee population across multiple legal entities. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with regional HR and Compensation & Benefits leadership while contributing to ongoing operational enhancements and business growth initiatives.

Job Description

  • Manage day-to-day Human Capital operations across multiple legal entities in China.
  • Oversee payroll administration through external vendors, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery.
  • Coordinate payroll reviews, reconciliations, approvals, and reporting activities.
  • Partner with regional Compensation & Benefits stakeholders on payroll governance and operational processes.
  • Act as the primary contact for payroll vendors and internal stakeholders regarding payroll-related matters.
  • Support employee onboarding, offboarding, contract administration, and personnel documentation.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HR data within Workday and other HR systems.
  • Ensure compliance with local labour regulations, internal policies, and audit requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing relevant HR and payroll documentation.
  • Review and enhance HR operational processes to improve efficiency, consistency, and employee experience.
  • Assist with policy communication and implementation across the employee population.
  • Generate HR reports, workforce data analysis, and management information as required.
  • Collaborate with finance, legal, and regional teams on operational and compliance-related matters.
  • Support office growth initiatives and workforce expansion plans within China.



The Successful Applicant

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Around 6-10 years of experience within HR Operations, Payroll, Human Capital Operations, Shared Services, or Compensation & Benefits.
  • Solid understanding of China payroll processes, labour legislation, and HR operational practices.
  • Experience managing payroll vendors and working within outsourced payroll environments.
  • Familiarity with HR systems, preferably Workday or similar platforms.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience supporting multiple legal entities and stakeholder groups.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organisation, and process improvement capabilities.
  • Strong communication skills in both English and Mandarin.
  • Confidence interacting with regional and international stakeholders.
  • A hands-on and proactive approach suitable for a lean team environment.
