A major international retailer with a strong presence in China and ambitious plans to increase the number of stores and footprint across the region. This business has performed well in recent years and holds a commanding, market leading, position.
Job Description
This role is primarily concerned with managing the key relationship with regional and national vendors in product and range negotiation to develop and maintain the relevant categories according to customer needs and market trends. The role is also responsible for leading a team of regional and national buyers to assist in the specific range reviews for the varying regional stores. Based at the head office in Shanghai and reporting to the Category Director this position is key in strengthening the commercial team and working as part of the Category team. The role will involve some travel across China and will also mean working with the European Head Office of this global retailer
The Successful Applicant
The ideal candidate will have strong buying and ideally some category management background, preferably in building ranges and strong vendor negotiation. The product background is not too important but should be a consumer food or non-food product rather than fashion or luxury. Candidates will be fluent in Mandarin and English with experience of working for a western company strongly preferred. Communication and negotiation ability is very important and candidates will need to be very strong at negotiating favorable trading terms with vendors.
