About Our Client
Our client is one of the top trading companies, their headquarter is based in US.
This Legal Counsel position will be responsible for negotiating and finalizing agreements to enable transactions to occur within our commodities and plastics trading operations globally, and will also provide general legal advise to assist our business in Asia in general and our Shanghai office in particular. The position is located in our office in Shanghai and would be the only attorney for the Company in that office. The Legal Counsel will manage queries from company management, traders and operations persons in our Asian offices as well as contribute substantively to the Company's Legal Department's functions on commercial, compliance, corporate and employment issues which impact the success of the international trading business in the Asian region. This role requires a motivated and detail-oriented individual with a balanced approach to legal and business objectives. Candidates must have some knowledge and/or experience working with English and US laws. Experience working in or for a multinational corporation is preferred. Candidates must be highly reliable, solution-oriented, with a track record that demonstrates good business and legal judgement, and the ability to deliver consistent, timely legal work-product in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate must be a good communicator in Chinese and in English who is able to function well in both individual and team capacities.
The Successful Applicant
*Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience working with international sales contracts and issues.
*Experience managing and handling with international compliance matters strongly preferred (e.g., anti-corruption, sanctions, anti-boycott)
*Licensed to practice law in China or other country in Asia.
*Experience working with a multinational, working with US and English law, and/or education in Common Law countries desirable.
*Experience with assessing legal risk in difficult situations, particularly under time pressure.
*Experience with standard international sales, maritime and related contracts (e.g., charter parties, storage agreements) and exposure to issues arising from the implementation of those agreement (e.g., force majeure clause, quality, liability).
*Ability to communicate effectively complex ideas in English required. Ability to speak multiple languages preferred.
*Superior interpersonal and organizational skills. Solutions-orientated.
*Demonstrated good judgment and effective communication with company personnel and third parties.
*Ability to clearly translate into lay terms and effectively communicate the legal conditions which affect business opportunities, issues and problems
